How to change the address in the SPR voter register from the original address to the new address?

Amendments to information details such as religion and race can be made at State Election Offices throughout the country by submitting an Identity Card and other relevant document evidence.

  1. The correction of any small information details such as religion and race are taken action as soon as the application is made at the State Election Office which will then be sent to the EC Headquarters for approval.
  2. Correction of name and other information according to what is written in the Identification Card is made by the Chief Registrar within two (2) weeks.
  3. To ensure that voter information details are accurate and up-to-date, it is advised that voters check their names and if necessary, voters can apply for correction according to the information in the Identification Card.

There are husbands/wives who register using different addresses. In addition, if they register at the same address, this may be due to an error during data entry by EC staff due to the fact that there are places that have/use similar names in this country.

This may be due to errors during data collection at the NRD level or may be during data entry during voter registration by EC staff.

Differences in the details of the Identification Card number may exist due to data entry errors according to the old registration system. Under the current registration system that is practiced now, there is no such error because the SPR communicates online with the National Registration Department (JPN) during data collection.

The address of the application for change of address is not the same as the address as stated in the Identification Card. This may apply to applications made before 16 July 2002. Any application for a change of address in the voter register must follow the address in the Identity Card. If a voter intends to move to a polling place, he must first apply for a change of address on his Identification Card at the NRD. After that he can apply for a change of polling place address in the voter register at any State Election Office or at the EC Headquarters in Putrajaya or at computerized Post Offices nationwide.

Registered voters who have changed their residential address can change their polling station address by making a change of address first in their Identification Card at the National Registry Office (JPN). After that, bring the change of address receipt issued by the NRD and go to any EC counter to apply for a change of polling station address by filling in Form A. Change of polling station address can only be done at EC counters at the EC Headquarters and Offices- State Election Office and Post Office counters are computerized only.

According to Article 119(4) of the Federal Constitution if a registered voter does not make any application to change polling station, his name will remain listed at the original address where he registered as a voter despite the fact that he has already changed his address in the Identification Card in a new place. Regulation 12(2) of the Election Regulations (Voter Registration) 2002 stipulates that the SPR can only change the polling station address of a registered voter if the voter applies for a change and has filled in Form A prescribed under Regulation 12 of the Election Regulations ( Voter Registration) 2002.
